Why are solicited emails blocked?

I have a home based website. Occasionally users have had trouble with the process on our website and have used our Contact form and requested an email reply back from us.

Unfortunately in many cases with Yahoo, when I send out the email reply it often never makes it to the user (ends up in SPAM folder). My website does not send SPAM (unsolicited email) and does not have any marketing campaign. We also never reply with attached files We only send out emails to those that email us first and have requested a reply.

What is wrong here, and what is the best way to fix it? Is tehre a way to be added to a “safe” list? Should I block users from signing up with Yahoo accounts? or block all yahoo emails and have a reply through an alternate site that they must use a non-yahoo account?

  1. Just make sure to have your customers click on Not Spam, when your message goes into their Bulk/Spam folder.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Hi, Trish…
Although you know your email is not SPAM, the spam filters do not. There are several possibilities, certain key words within the subject line and/or body. But, I suspect your mail server is bouncing off another mail server (relay).
A relayed email is a major red flag for SPAM.
Best recommendation is to advise your users to add your email address to their contacts and/or “safe email list”. Alternatively, they can watch for your email in the SPAM folder, check it as “not spam”, adding it to the “safe email list”.
Otherwise, you will have to check the wording of your subject line and body to minimize the “probabilities” of your email being SPAM to the various filters in use.
    Hope this helps… :-)

  3. You need to be in address books to avoid that.
