There are definitely a lot of reasons as to why you could be depressed and I think all of thosee reasons contribute to it. As far as number 1 goes, I think the political campaign was something that was just really stable for you and it was nice to always have something that you knew you could go to every day but then now that it's over, you feel as though that "thing" is missing. That solid ground that you once had has been taken for you and as hard as that is, you could really take this chance to take the opportunity to explore new things that could make you just as happy and other things that satiate that solid base you had with the political campagin. And plus, just because the election is over, politics will always be there and I'm sure there will be more than enough political issues for you to deal with and if not, the world is filled with possibilities - you just have to be optimistic and not simply say that you "don't know what to do with yourself" because negative thinking definitely won't solve the problem (self-fulfilling prophecy)!

In addition, as far as going to lunch with this man, if this has been your dream for so long, then just let it be that! Let it be something that makes you happy and the fact that this is actually happening should be a good sign! Obviously, good things happen to you and so just go with the flow! Just try to not think too much about it - for example, don't think about the fact that you're going to ruin it because you're not going to have anything to talk about because the more you think about it, the more nervous you'll get and the more nervous you get, the more anxious you'll feel about the whole situation and what you feared the most could end up happening when none of it would've even have happened to begin with had you not thought about all that! So once again, see this as a lunch that's going to go absolutely great and more than likely, it probably will!

Also, maybe you just need to adjust to the difference in your anti-depressants. Some anti-depressants make take a while to work because they act on your energy first before it starts taking affect on your brain (are you taking an SSRI?). Either way, with whatever medication you take your body will always need time to adjust to it and to get used to and so just give that some time.

Finally, don't think that you don't have a choice in your life because you have a chance to control whatever you want! Hopefully this gives a little bit of insight to your problem and I hope you find taht solid ground and that your lunch goes well! You can do it!
