An aquaintance said something that leads me to believe he hacked into my aol account. I am asking because I have this nagging feeling that they read some of my email. How hard could this be. I don’t think that this person is particulary bright but – people suprise me all of the time.

it’s as easy as it took you to think about it and as twice as fast as it took you to type this question
No Joke
technically, it is really not a “hack”, they just need to know (or guess) your password.
If your password is something easy to guess or you told someone your password before, it is very easy. Otherwise, it is very very hard; especially if he isn’t too bright. A possibility is that he read your email on a computer you were using while you were away?
Is your password easy to figure out, something personal to you, or related to something you like? No numbers or symbols in it? then that would be super easy.
He could try bruteforcing it which would take some time, but if your password is nothing but a correctly spelt word with no extra’s it can be done and not take forever.
Do you leave your computer logged into your email address, have it go to your phone and leave your phone out, save your passwords to your browser so you just have to click log-in…Then odds are he read it because you didn’t protect yourself enough.
Other than that, no, it would be tough.
Gmail is good cause they keep track of account login records
Hello,
Yes, it is possible that your friend accessed your email account. It would be easy for them to log your password if they had a logging program on their computer and you typed in your password on their computer. Generally speaking it’s best to only type in passwords on computers that you trust. I recommend that you change your password immediately. For suggestions on creating a password see this article on how to create a strong email password.
